Other info. - This showy species can be found in just a handful of Missouri counties but is spreading. The plant can be identified in the field by its distinctive basal leaves and big, radiate flower heads. From a distance, this species can resemble others in the family such as Taraxacum officinale Wiggers, or Pyrrhopappus carolinianus (Walt.) DC., but closer inspection reveals the differences between these plants.
