Habitat - Bottomland and mesic upland prairies, fens, moist depressions and ledges of limestone glades, edges of streams, rivers, and lakes, roadside ditches, railroads.

Origin - Native to U.S.

Other info. - This easily identified species can be found throughout Missouri and is quite common. The plant is easy to ID because of its thin, pendant spikelets (hence the species epithet). In the past, this species has been incorrectly referred to as S. lineatus Michx. which is a species native to the southeastern U.S.
There are 8 species of Scirpus in Missouri, most are fairly easy to identify.
