Origin - Native to U.S.

Other info. - This species can be found throughout Missouri but is most common in the northern and central portions of the state. Our plants belong to variety Shreveri Small and have fruiting capsules which can reach 10cm in length. Variety virginica, has fruiting capsules that can reach only about 7cm in length.
I. virginica can cause an allergic reaction in some people and should not be eaten as it is mildly toxic. All plants in the Iridaceae should be not be ingested, just to be safe.
