Other info. - This showy species can be found cultivated throughout Missouri and is commonly sold as a potted plant just about everywhere. The flowers of cultivated plants range from white to blue or pink. Wild plants have far fewer flowers than those of cultivated plants and are usually bluish.
H. orientalis contains alkaloids and is toxic if eaten in large quantities. Some people are allergic to the sap.
